Dr. Dave Bowman flight suit (Keir Dullea)

In the Stanley Kubrick’s motion picture 2001 : A Space Odyssey, Dr. David Bowman is on a mission to track the source of an alien monolith found on the moon, which leads to a moon around the planet Jupiter in order to find the answer. Dr. David Bowman is played by the actor Keir Dullea who will also appear in the sequel : 2010 The Year of the First Contact by Peter Hyams. The costume that we presents is the flight suit worn by actor Keir Dullea in most of the film, aboard the spaceship Discovery.

Although the Art Direction of the film have been entrusted to John Hoesli (who also worked on the sci-fi movie Lifeforce in 1985) Kubrick involved himself in every aspect of production, even choosing the fabric for his actors' costumes, and selecting notable pieces of contemporary furniture for use in the film. During the long years of preproduction, Kubrick also consulted Aerospace specialists on the design of the costumes and especially the spacesuits and space helmets. The costumes of the film were done by Hardy Amies.

In the end, over fifty organizations contributed technical advice to the production, and a number of them submitted their ideas to Kubrick of what kind of products might be seen in a movie set in the year 2001. Much was made by MGM's publicity department of the film's realism, claiming in a 1968 brochure that "Everything in 2001: A Space Odyssey can happen within the next three decades, and...most of the picture will happen by the beginning of the next millennium."

The costume of the Archives, shows that time and Kubrick’s perfectionism as well as the unique place of this sci-fi picture in film History !
