Patrick Tatopoulos

Patrick Tatopoulos is a Director, an Art Director and a Visual and Special Effects supervisor. He lived his early years in Paris where he worked in animation and drawing arts. He studied at the "École des Arts Appliqués", "École des Beaux Arts" and "École des Arts décoratifs". After a brief stint in advertising agency, he moved to Rome and Greece, where he worked as an art engineer for advertising.

In 1989 he tried his luck in the film industry and started by the U.S. production: Super Mario Bros. with a work on special effects.
After that he designed costumes and sets for the 1996 Stargate. This film is his first collaboration with the German director Roland Emmerich. the two men worked together for several movies after this one like Independence Day, Godzilla, 10,000 and 2012. In 1996 he also founded his own special effects company: TatopoulosStudios.

He returned to science fiction in 1997, becoming chief designer on Alex Proyas' Dark City. Few Years later, the two men have been reunited on I, Robot.
He participated on David Twohy's Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick, and will be in charge of special effects of I Am Legend by director Francis Lawrence, as well as the third film in the series Resident Evil and Underworld. Set designer on Underworld 2: Evolution and Die Hard 4: Back to Hell he has also designed creatures on Supernova and Silent Hill for the french director Christophe Gans.

Patrick Tatopoulos has reached an other level in his career in 2009 by directing his first movie Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans. Although he has just finished the set design of the remake of Total Recall, and the special effects of The Last Voyage of Demeter he is preparing his new film as a director: The Colony.
