Robert Watts

Robert Watts is a British producer whose film career began in 1960 with a film entitled A French Misstress. At the time he is an assistant but quickly rose through the ranks to become, in 1988, one of the most well known film producer with Who Framed Roger Rabbit. During those years he works with the greatest actors like Lee Van Cleef, Robert Mitchum, Rita Hayworth, Sean Connery, Harrison Ford… He works on many British films some of which belong to the New Wave, as John Schlesinger's Darling and Roman Polanski's Repulsion.

He works on two James Bond, Thunderball as 2nd Unit Director and You Only Live Twice as Location Manager. His reputation in the business leads him to work for over a year on 2001, The Space Odyssey as a Production Manager. He films, especially in the south-west Africa, plates that Kubrick reuse to create in studio the scene called “At the Dawn of Humanity”. Speaking as good English, as French and Spanish, he worked for the French producer Robert Dorfman and became Unit Production Manager on Franklin J. Schaffner's Papillon, starring Steve McQueen.

In 1975, his collaboration with George Lucas is a turning point in his career. He gradually became the head of Lucasfilm in Europe and participates in Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies. He held the positions of Production Supervisor and 3rd Unit Director on Star Wars and Associate Producer on The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark, and then became Co-Producer on Return of the Jedi and Producer on Indiana Jones and Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
