Marty McFly & Marty Junior 2015 vest

The vest in the Archives, is the hero screen-used "Marty McFly" Year 2015 future jacket worn in Back to the Future II. This is one of the four screen-used jackets from Back to the Future II worn by actor Michael J. Fox. There were two vests with mechanisms for special effects (one for size fiting and one for automatic self-drying) and two without mechanisms (one for Marty Senior and one for Marty Junior).

When Doc Brown and Marty arrive in the year 2015, Doc asks Marty to put on clothes similar to Marty Jr. To help him pass for a contemporary teenager, Doc Brown gives Marty the latest in high-tech outerwear. The item that Marty puts on after the self-lacing Nike shoes is this resizing future jacket. Both sleeves are long and both pockets have long flaps.

The costume of the first Back to the Future were design by Deborah Scott (Avatar), but for Back to the Future II the costumes were designed by English costume designer, Joanna Johnston, who work extensively with Steven Spielberg.
As Back to the Future II and III were produce back to back, she was the costume designer for both movies. Joanna Johnston said she was terrified at the prospect of designing the clothing of the future, making costumes for the cast and 150 extras from scratch, since screnwriter Bob Gale's concept did not have a basis in anyone else's work.
For a future society in which men and women are truly equal, the clothing styles would exaggerate the difference between the sexes. She decided to use a very wide variety of fabrics in bright "but not fluorescent" colors.
